Leather Industries of Uganda Limited (LIU) was founded in 1995 to take over assets of the first government tannery in East Africa;Uganda Leather and Tanning Industries (ULATI) established in 1979 located near the source of River Nile on the Shores of Lake Victoria.
The company now employs over 300 staff throughout East Africa and part of the Industrial Promotion Services (IPS), an infrastructure and industrial development arm of Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN).
LIU is involved the processing of wetblue bovine hides for the furniture, footwear and leather goods.
