Its regulatory role is embedded in the National Environment Act No.5, 2019.<\/p>\n<p>The agency operates with the purpose to make Uganda a Clean, Healthy, Productive and Sustainable Environment with the mission to promote and ensure sound environment management practices for sustainable development. Overall NEMA hopes to create, establish and maintain an efficient mechanism for sustainable environmental and natural resources management at the national, district and community levels.<\/p>\n<p>Among the main objectives set by NEMA include enhancing environmental compliance and enforcement, environmental integration at national and local government level, access to environmental information and effective environment management and sustainable development.<\/p>\n<p>Under its mandate NEMA is in charge of the development of environmental policies, laws, regulations, standards and guidelines; and guides Government on sound environment management in Uganda.
